Cowboy Mounted Shooting is similar to barrel racing but with guns. Competitors must ride their horses through a pattern while using two single action revolvers to shoot at 10 target balloons, firing all along the way. Competitors are given a five second penalty for every balloon they miss. The fastest competitor wins!

Competitors use authentic .45 single-action revolvers, which are modeled after the kind used in the late 1800’s. Since the revolvers are single-action, the rider must cock the gun each time they wish to fire. The revolvers are loaded with blank rounds that contain coarse black gun powder. This powder is so coarse that it can pop a balloon up to 15 feet away.
