Vernon & Eileen Davidson first begin to raise commercial cattle in their early married lives having both grown up on mixed commercial cattle operations in SW Saskatchewan. From there they reached out to diversify, owning and operating a feedlot business alongside their commercial cattle operation. They fed their own, purchased more steers and marketed the finished beef product directly to beef plants. Following their finished beef product through to the rail was a great education to better hone their eyes to the criteria that would produce high yielding beef carcass and the best returns.

As their family grew they decided to once again diversify and developed a small herd of purebred registered Gelbvieh cattle, under the name Davidson Gelbvieh. That was over 35 years ago. Today Vernon and Eileen will calve over 200 purebred registered gelbvieh females both black and red. 2021 will mark their 32nd Annual Bull Sale hosted on their ranch, selling about 100 yearling bulls, at Ponteix, Saskatchewan along with their son Ross and his wife Tara, and Family….Lonesome Dove Ranch. They sell to many commercial producers both locally and internationally and to seed-stock producers too. Always holding in high esteem their many repeat clients.

Vernon & Eileen have 1 daughter, Carla, Executive Director at The Bridgepoint Center and married to Mario Chabot, a Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Vernon & Eileen’s eldest Son Glen, a Journeyman Carpenter, owing their own business, married Julie, an Associate Broker at Realty Executives. A second Son Ross, who along with his wife Tara and Family own a large herd of both Purebred Gelbvieh and Commercial Cattle. Tyler, their youngest son is a Land Consultant and cattle producer. He married Melanie who works as a Regional Marketing Manager with Farm Credit Canada and has worked as the Newsroom Director at Canadian Western Agribition. Today Vernon & Eileen are truly blessed with all their Family, including too, 11 young Grandchildren ranging in age from over 3 to nearly 15 years of age!

Vernon and Eileen have shown cattle for many years, at various venues, including Farm Fair International in Edmonton Alberta, Canadian Western Agribition in Regina , Saskatchewan and the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado. Their herd has won many awards and their cow herd has consistently been recognized for producing many Dams of Merit and Dams of Distinction as credited by the Canadian Gelbvieh Association. They value the many friendships they have made over many breeds of cattle and realize the credible difference it has made on their business. They acknowledge the commitment fellow Breeders continually make to exhibit cattle, always learning and bettering their individual herds and breeds.

Vernon and Eileen have enjoyed judging many shows and events including large commercial events, 4-H events, The Toronto Royal, Supreme’s at both Farmfair International & Canadian Western Agribition, and National Breed Shows including The National Red Angus Show at Farmfair International.

Lonesome Dove Ranch is operated by Ross and Tara, along with their children, Ash, Cameron, Jaime, and Flynn. They are based in southwest Saskatchewan near Ponteix. They raise purebred red and black Gelbvieh cattle, and run a large commercial Gelbvieh cattle herd.
